Bio

Traditional?... Sure. Conventional?... Never!

The Mighty Wallops came together in 2024 over a shared love for early jazz and blues. After woodshedding the songs of Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Lead Belly, they started reinventing contemporary pop hits in 1920s style (a la Postmodern Jukebox) and composing their own quirky originals.  With nods to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, the Wallops' lyrics cover a wide range of offbeat topics, as evidenced by titles like "The Vampire Tango," "Little Green Men From Outer Space," and "You're Cat Will Eat Your Body When You Die." The Mighty Wallops are a rare kind of band that can be legitimately described as both totally traditional and totally unconventional.

Matt Albright

Known for his snazzy warddrobe and come-hither smoochy face, Matt plays a killer trombone, not only for The Mighty Wallops but also for The Blowbacks.

Peter Halldorf

Thoughtful by nature, Peter Halldorf considers drumming a noble pursuit but, inexplicably, prefers kazoo. He plays both instruments in The Mighty Wallops and washboard in Burning Daylight People

Portia Njoku

While the other girls in the marching band picked clarinets and flutes, the naturally ebullient Portia knew her lot was not the delicate twiddles of the high end but ground-shaking blurts of Titanic power. She plays tuba for The Mighty Wallops and The Grand Isle Fire Brigade.

Bobby Waller

Intending to wow the world with his poignant poeticism, singer/songwriter Bobby Waller mastered the Dylanesque harmonica solo but soon learned how hard it is to become the spokesperson of your generation when all your songs are about zombies, Martians, and girly drinks. He sings, strums, sucks and blows for both The Mighty Wallops and Stout Rebellion.
